The Journey of a Book

April 25, 2022

#WorldBookDay is celebrated annually on the 23rd of April to celebrate and promote the enjoyment of books and reading. Each year, celebrations take place all over the world to recognize the scope of books – a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures according to UNESCO.

At EKOEXCEL, we make sure to provide all our pupils with the appropriate textbooks for their level. Our books are also in-line with Lagos States curriculum to ensure our pupils are learning exactly what they are supposed to be.

The provision of textbooks to our pupils plays a very key part in improving the learning outcomes of pupils that attend Lagos State public primary schools that run the EKOEXCEL programme. According to a recently released evaluation, EKOEXCEL pupils are making remarkable progress in oral reading fluency and foundational numeracy compared to their performance before the initiative’s commencement.

The report also showed that an average Primary 3 EKOEXCEL pupil is now reading at nearly the same fluency level as an average Primary 5 pupil before the EKOEXCEL programme’s launch.

Our books are also culturally appropriate and tailored to the needs of pupils at every stage of their education and printed in the languages necessary to further their learning process and understanding.

The books that are printed by EKOEXCEL are locally owned but at the same time they are globally supported, this means that our textbooks are of high enough quality to be usable outside of the country.

According to Ibelusi Ifeoma, a primary 5 pupil of Ogudu Nursery and Primary School, she loves to read because she reads to educate herself and believes that it is the best thing she can do for herself.
